"A big bouquet of appreciation to all the home care nurses who have attended me in the past two years following colostomy surgeries. Recently I was visited by a nurse, Elise Nielsen, who had taken advanced training re: colostomy care. The day she visited me gave me the assurance I was really in need of. Sorry to hear Elise has left for Ontario. I certainly hope the local Home Care Unit will be fortunate to have her return here one day".

"Elise is a big-picture person in that she can see the factors that work to both constrain and support her practice... she is a reliable, hard-working and thoughtful employee who has much to contribute and who enjoys challenge in her workplace. She would do well building a new service, or working in an established area of practice."

Barb McKell, RN, BSN, NP, Clinical Educator, Seniors, Home & Community Services, Vancouver Island Health Authority, BC

"Elise's interest in constantly improving her knowledge and skills led her take the enterostomal therapy course... [she has] the ability to be flexible, set reasonable goals and not to give up. Elise is a positive and up-beat person. She is goal-directed and organized... She has great communication skills, working well with colleagues, clients and families. She will be a great asset to any organization."

Susan Lanyon, Retired RN and Manager Home Health Care, Vancouver Island Health Authority, BC

"We have been blessed by your presence on the committee. You have raised pertinent issues in a compassionate and articulate manner and been a wonderful advocate for clients."

Pat Foster, Health Services for Community Living Ethics Committee, BC

"Elise has been acting in a maternity leave as clinical leader for Health Services for Community living... Jane Plant, the recently retired manager of Community Living for the Ministry of Children and Families called me to tell me what a wonderful job Elise was doing. Jane noted that Elise was managing the clinical issues as well as trying to do some program planning as well. Jane is well aware of the clinical complexity, but believes strongly that the nurse in this role must not be pulled into client care only. She knew it took high level planning for Elise to maintain the planning role. In our discussion, Jane encouraged that Elise be supported to take on more supervisory and/or management roles in the future. I strongly support this, as I believe Elise has the potential to become a strong leader."
